Raj Indian Restaurant, Bristol – Restaurant Review

Raj Indian Restaurant, Bristol – Restaurant Review

Are you looking for somewhere in Bristol to enjoy a nice meal?
Are you looking for the best Indian or Tandoori Restaurant in Bristol?
If so then you should enjoy the Raj Indian Restaurant, located in King Street, Bristol.

It may not look like much from the outside but wait, and let the food do the talking. The restaurant is below street level and having requested a table we were seated fairly quickly and presented with the menus. The menu is very interesting with lots of items which I had never tried (or indeed heard of) before, from curries to tandoori specialities. I took some time in perusing the menu and everything looked good.

The menu is vast and in these circumstances I always try something new. I wasn’t disappointed. A very nicely presented and cooked meal with some indian sundries and desserts also available.

The restaurant is very cosy without being overly cramped and there was a nice vibe / atmosphere.
Another small touch was the free WiFi – always nice to have.

Who’d a thought it, Glastonbury – Restaurant Review

Who’d a thought it, Glastonbury – Restaurant Review

Before the 2013 festival I visited the town of Glastonbury, passed the Tor and also visited Glastonbury Abbey which is well worth seeing if alone for the very good visitors centre with Abbey reconstruction model. (don’t forget to pick up some Glastonbury Mead while you are at the Abbey. Anyway, hunger set in and a quick consulting of the TripAdvisor iPhone App lead me to “Who’d a thought it” a pub with an unusual name but a great reputation online.

The menu was excellent and I opted for the 3 varieties of Sausage with Mash and red wine gravy – I was in heaven. The Sunday Roast looked great too served with Yorkshire Pud and gravy.
The desserts were wonderful so make sure you leave some room for those – the Apple crumble especially.

A really nice place to eat with a lovely atmosphere.

If I’m ever back in in the area again I will be visiting “Who’d a thought it !”

Dragonfly Bar & Restaurant, Newport – Restaurant Review

While staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Newport we found The Dragonfly Bar & Restaurant. Having checked it on TripAdvisor I found very good reviews and decided to go there for our evening meal.

The friendly staff at the Dragonfly advised us of a brief delay and gave us one of the brand new menus to peruse while waiting. We ordered from the wide selection of drinks available, enjoying a beverage before being seated.

After 10-15 minutes we were seated and had a look at the food on offer. The menu was so good I had a hard time making a final decision on what to order. The starters were very good and anticipation of the main course grew. The main course of fish and chips was excellent and plentiful as well as great value.

Don’t forget to save room for desserts – the mini dessert with tea is a nice one if you are looking for soemething light & tasty.
(Unfortunately I have no photos of this visit due to a phone problem on the night we visited)

The Dragonfly is well worth a visit.

Carraig Hotel, Carrick-On-Suir, Review

Carraig Hotel, Carrick-On-Suir, Review

In the past I have found that in Ireland, especially hotels in smaller towns can sometimes be a bit basic. This is not always the case but  more often than not the finer touches are missed. Either the food is not to write home about or the ambiance is non-existant…

I visit the Carraig Hotel every 2 weeks as part of a photography group and I often end up having food, drinks and have also attended functions in this location. The Carraig Hotel is a modern hotel which has been recently renovated. It has great food, a very bright and lively bar with extra touches like free WiFi and Sky Sports & piped music through-out the bar area. There is always a good buzz, some lively chat or nice music.

I have eaten here a good few times now and every time it it is very good quality. Over the past few months I have tried everything from a mini-grill, curry or chicken maryland to traditional cod & chips, burgers and wraps. My favourite is the duck spring rolls – delicious. The food is very good value too.

The Carraig is also great as a venue for functions, with plenty of room for all.
